Mills On The Air

A small but cosy corner in the entrance of the museum next to the mill.

Dave M0HDJ with the MAG-LOOP designed for 20m and up.  Unfortunately we couldn't find any  stations on 20m.  The only bands active were 40 and 80 metres.  We did however receive stations in a contest from Ukraine, Italy and Spain.  All of them about S9.  As we were not in the contest we thought it best to let them get on with it.

Some important lessons were learned during our time at the mill.  The Dipole wasn't high enough.  I think the high content of Carbon in the ground may have effected this,  The vertical antenna (Roach pole) tuned by an auto tuner was by far the best thing to use in this situation.  A variation on Don's set up will I think be used next year.  Well, it's all good fun isn't it?

My thanks go out to our helpers this year,

Don      G0NQJ   for working most of the mills

Dave    M0HDJ, Les G2FQP and Bryan our SWL for rigging the dipole

Martin G4EIA    for the still images

Steve    G4MCQ for the movies

Our special thought goes out to Kip M0IHL  (91 years young) who always gives a hand and never lets us down but for a badly twisted knee.

Hope it gets better soon Kip.
